Eric Brown
Professor, Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences

Eric Brown is interested in the complex biology that underlies bacterial survival strategies; aiming to understand and subvert these systems in drug resistant superbugs. As the Canada Research Chair in Microbial Biology, he and his team are using tools of chemical biology and molecular genetics to probe poorly understood aspects of bacterial physiology, with an overriding goal of contributing fresh directions for new antibiotics. Dr. Brown is a member of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research and Director of McMaster’s Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization (BDC) program—a leading edge academic program at the nexus of science and commerce, designed to equip graduates with the requisite discovery research skills and business acumen to become leaders in health sciences, drug discovery and development sectors. Dr. Brown has served on a variety of advisory boards for national and international companies and associations, and is currently a member of the editorial board of ACS Infectious Diseases, the Advisory Board of the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Research, and serves as a College Chair advising the Canadian Institutes of Health Research on peer review.
