Overview

Dr. Ayeni is a Professor and the Academic Division Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at McMaster University, Canada. He is the Past-President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Research Methodology, Evidence and Impact; Director of the McMaster Arthroscopy Collective Sports Medicine (MacSports) fellowship, and Medical Director for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (Canadian Football League) and Forge FC (Canadian Premier League). 

Dr. Ayeni holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Joint Preservation Surgery (2022-2027), is a University Scholar (2022-2026) at McMaster University, and was inducted as a Member of the Royal Society of Canada in 2025. He has published over 450 academic publications in sports medicine as well as several textbooks focused on sports medicine/research. Dr. Ayeni is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) and the Deputy Chair for the ISAKOS Scientific Committee (2019). He is the first non-European appointed to the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy Committee (2020), and is currently the Research and Academy Chair of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (2021).


He is considered a leading authority on orthopaedic sports injuries, in particular, hip injuries in the young adult, as this is a substantial portion of his clinical practice. He has spoken widely across the globe on evidence-based approaches to evaluate and treat hip-related syndromes and conditions.
