Dr. Yuhong (Cathy) Yuan was a Gastroenterologist and a lecturer at Sun Yet-sen University of Medical Science in Guangzhou, P.R. China, with an M.D., M.Sc., and Ph.D. She then underwent two years of post-doc training in the Netherlands and the U.K..
Cathy immigrated to Canada in 2001. She pursued her second Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster University in 2005 while working as a research fellow. Since then, she has worked as a research associate and health research methodologist at the Department of Medicine, McMaster University, until Dec. 2023.
Since December 2023, Cathy has been a Research Associate at the London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario. In May 2024, she began her role as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medicine at Western University, Ontario.
Cathy has been involved in numerous research projects and has contributed to clinical guideline development; she has co-authored over 210 medical papers, 10 book chapters/document sections/reports for government agencies, and over 140 conference proceedings (with an h-index of 64).
Cathy has collaborated with prestigious researchers and helped train junior researchers worldwide. She is currently a Guidelines Office Methods Committee member for the European Association of Urology (EAU), an international editorial board member for a high-ranking medical journal AP&T, and an invited reviewer for several high-impact medical journals.
Since 2014, Cathy was the Cochrane Information Specialist (CIS) for Cochrane UGPD and was the CIS for Cochrane Gut till Dec.2022. In addition, Cathy was the Managing Editor for Cochrane Upper Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Diseases (UGPD) from 2018, until Cochrane Gut was formed in June 2020 by the merger of Cochrane UGPD and Cochrane IBD; Cathy was the Managing Editor for Cochrane Gut from June 2020 till Dec.2022.
