Stanley Alama
Professor, Mathematics and Statistics

Dr. Stan Alama is Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. His research is in the mathematical analysis of problems arising in physical science, specifically in the Calculus of Variations and elliptic partial differential equations. Current projects include nonlocal isoperimetric problems and the analysis of defects in variational models of liquid crystals. Dr. Alama received his BS from Columbia University, and his PhD from the Courant Institute at New York University in 1988. He held positions at Brown, Penn, and Carnegie-Mellon Universities before coming to McMaster in 1992. He was also honored with the MSU Teaching Award for the Science faculty in 2005.
