Varun Chaudhary

Dr. Chaudhary is Chief of Ophthalmology and Associate Professor of Surgery at McMaster University.

As a Clinician, Dr. Chaudhary’s practice focus is on providing cutting edge medical and surgical treatment for patients with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and surgical vitreo-retinal diseases (complex retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery, epiretinal membrane repair, and complications post cataract surgery).

His administrative duties extend to the provincial level where he is the regional physician lead for ophthalmology and serves as clinical expert advisor for multiple provincial ophthalmology working groups.

At the national level, Dr. Chaudhary is the CPD Director for the Canadian Retina Society and is meeting chair for the Canadian Retina Society annual meeting.

As a researcher, Dr. Chaudhary has secured multiple peer-reviewed grants. He is the site Principal Investigator for the international DRCR network and sits on the steering committee for multi-national clinical trials in retina. He supervises Master’s level thesis students in translational retinal research. Dr. Chaudhary was honoured to be appointed Associate Member, McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering based on recommendation by the respective Academic Dean and Chair. He was awarded the Honor Award by the American Society of Retinal Specialists.

Dr. Chaudhary is also the Section Editor, Retina & Vitreous for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology and serves as reviewer for top retina and ophthalmology journals internationally.
