BACKGROUND: The exercise strategy that yields the greatest improvement in both cardiorespiratory fitness (V̇O2peak$$ \dot{\mathrm{V}}{\mathrm{O}}_{2\mathrm{peak}} $$) and walking capacity poststroke has not been determined.
