Acute Nondisplaced Fractures of the Scaphoid

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The optimal management for undisplaced scaphoid fractures has been the focus of much debate. Investigators have advocated internal fixation of these fractures; however, whether surgery improves clinically relevant patient outcomes compared with casting remains unknown. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of internal fixation versus casting for undisplaced scaphoid fractures on the rates of union, return to work, grip strength, and range of motion.
