  • Summary. The study of microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia in Professor Dacie's Department in the decade 1959–69 represents an unusual achievement in medical research in which one group of workers have put forward a hypothesis regarding a disease process, have subsequently confirmed it both in experimental animals and in man, and have shown the benefit of treatment based on their observations, and, furthermore, the work has received independent confirmation. Although MHA is but one of the many notable contributions made by Professor Dacie and his colleagues it is, perhaps, unique in the extent to which it was elucidated by his Department. Although it is self‐evident, it must be stated that the study of MHA would not have come about without Professor Dacie's curiosity and interest in abnormal red‐cell morphology, and that his stimulus and encouragement, especially to myself, made the elucidation of MHA possible.
