Relationship Between Dose, Anticoagulant Effect and the Clinical Efficacy and Safety of Heparin
Abstract
Heparin is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is administrated by intravenous or subcutaneous injection. Heparin binds to many plasma proteins including vitronectin1, histidine-rich glycoprotein2 and fibronectin, which limits its access to antithrombin III and results in a variable loss of recovered anticoagulant activity.
