A Damage Spectrum for Performance-Based Design

Abstract

A procedure is presented for developing a damage spectrum for performance- based design and assessment. The selected damage model is independent of the structural material type. The load-deformation behaviour is assumed to be model with interdependent strength and stiffness. Strength demand spectra are constructed in the yield displacement spectral format. The developed damage index was used as the damage limiting parameter instead of displacement ductility. An example of the application for the assessment of an existing nonductile reinforced concrete frame building is presented.
