Philip Koshy
Professor, Mechanical Engineering

My field of research is machining: cutting, grinding and electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes. The emphasis in the research program is on science-based innovative approaches to expanding process capability and enhancing productivity. Topics that are of current interest include:

- Unconventional applications of EDM
- Applications of non-Newtonian fluids in machining
- Surface engineered cutting tools
- Cutting fluid application
- Cutting tool edge preparation techniques
- Process monitoring, modelling and simulation

I am associated with the Machining Systems Laboratory that is part of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute with excellent research facilities.
