OBJECTIVES: Extracting proteins from conventional hydrogel (CH) and silicone hydrogel (SH) contact lens materials using a mixture of trifluoroacetic acid/acetonitrile (TFA/ACN) is a well-established procedure for quantifying individual and total protein deposited on contact lenses.
