NapQuest: A Gamified Mobile App to Promote Power Napping Among University Students

Abstract

Despite growing evidence that daytime napping improves memory, alertness, and emotional regulation, university students often struggle to incorporate it into their routines due to inconsistent schedules, lack of support, and limited awareness. We present NapQuest, a gamified mobile and smartwatch app designed to promote intentional, sustainable napping habits. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, NapQuest incorporates playful features and social elements to support motivation and engagement. This Work-in-Progress describes the system design and outlines a planned evaluation focused on user motivation, behavioural intention, and perceived acceptability of nap tracking.
