Jets and Large Scale Outflows: Theory Confronts the Observations

Abstract

This article summarizes recent theoretical, numerical and observational progress on the nature of jets and outflows in regions of star formation. The emphasis is placed on the role of hydromagnetic phenonmena in understanding these new results. The confluence of sophisticated 3D numerical MHD simulations and the recent observations of rotating jets makes it possible, for the first time, to rigorously test jet models.
