WAVEFORM ANALYSIS OF ACOUSTIC SIGNALS FROM A MILD STEEL.
Abstract
Tensile specimens of AISI 1015 steel, with and without a sharp flaw, were pulled in tension to fracture while the acoustic signals emitted were detected using a wideband transducer and recorded for later analysis. It was found that the acoustic signals emitted from flawed specimens had a slightly higher amplitude, longer time duration and lower frequency content than those from unflawed specimens.
