Preform cracking in squeeze cast magnesium based composites – effects of tooling temperature

In theory, a magnesium alloy should offer improved mechanical properties (such as higher strength and modulus) when reinforced with silicon carbide particulates or whiskers, as in the case of aluminium composites.
