Initial Experience with Non-Perfused Organ Donors for Lung Transplantation

Abstract

Purpose Uncontrolled donation after death by circulatory criteria (uDCD) has the potential to alleviate some of the shortage of suitable lungs for transplantation. Non-Perfused Organ Donors (NPOD) differs from uDCD donors in that only lungs are obtained as no reperfusion is instituted after individuals suffer an unexpected sudden cardiac arrest.
