Al–Si Alloys as a Model System for Damage Accumulation in Composite Materials

Abstract

The effect of reinforcement characteristics on the damage of composite materials has been investigated on a model Al–Si alloy. Alloy microstructure and damage were described quantitatively in the bulk material by metallographic evaluation of samples cut from the deformed material and using stereological methods.
