Description of anisotropic response of clays using a tensorial measure of structural disorder

Abstract

A theoretical framework is developed for describing the effects of inherent and induced anisotropy in normally consolidated clays. The framework incorporates a continuum measure of microstructure evolution identified with the directional distribution of porosity/void ratio of the material.
