Overview
Dr. Bonnie Freeman is Algonquin/Mohawk from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory in Ontario, Canada. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, and brings many years of practice experience rooted in connections with Six Nations, and many Indigenous communities throughout Canada and the United States. Bonnie has been involved with many Indigenous journeys (horseback, walking & canoeing) over the years, exploring Indigenous methodology as a way of engaging and understanding Indigenous epistemology and cultural activism while learning from the land, natural environment and Onkwehonwe/Indigenous Peoples. For Bonnie, it is important to involve Indigenous community members, youth and knowledge keepers with all aspects of the research; one example is her current research project with Six Nations Two Row Canoe Paddle on the Grand River. This research is grounded with Haudenosaunee perspectives and decolonization in understanding the re-building relationships and alliances between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
