Overview

Dr. Janok P. Bhattacharya is the Susan Cunningham Research Chair in Geology in the School of Earth, Environment and Society. His main research interests are in the areas of fluvial and deltaic sedimentology, shales and thin beds, sequence stratigraphy and source-to-sink studies. He is an American Association of Petroleum Geologists Grover Murray Distinguished Educator, Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies Outstanding Educator, and in 2005 toured as an AAPG Distinguished Lecturer. Janok has served as the president of the Society of Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) (2015-2016) and Gulf Coast Section of SEPM (2008). IN 2023 he was awarded the Francis J. Pettijohn Medal for excellence in sedimentology and stratigraphyby SEPM. He is an associate editor for the Journal of Sedimentary Research and has authored or co-authored over 200 abstracts and 110   technical papers.
