Baniyelme Zoogah
Professor, Human Resources & Management

Baniyelme D. Zoogah (PhD - The Ohio State University) DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, Ontario. He leverages diverse methodologies to explore development issues at the intersection of individuals, teams, organizations, and societies across the macro (strategy, international business, environmental sustainability) and micro (human resources management, organizational behavior, industrial organization) domains. He has four major streams of research.

The first is Strategic Alliance Management. He examines the capabilities and competencies of individuals and groups in strategic alliances. He advanced strategic alliance mental models, cognitive mechanisms that alliance managers, teams, and executives use to describe (purpose and form), explain (functioning), and predict (future state) alliance systems.

The second is Environmental Sustainability where he examines the unique signatures of managers, organizations, and societies in promoting or preventing environmental sustainability. His work, The dynamics of Green HRM behaviors: A cognitive social information processing approach, has a high citation count which reflects the interest in green signature theory.

The third stream is Strategic Followership. He examines how individuals in followership roles can contribute to organizations' strategic objectives. He proposes two approaches - transcendent and restorative - to strategic followership which reflects the encounters with good and bad leaders respectively. He has written two books introducing and theorizing on the subject.

The third stream is Management History. He historicizes organization and management issues. His paper, “Academic Athena: Writing in Africa in Management and Organization Science” won the Journal of Management History Award for Best International Paper at the 2022 Academy of Management Annual Meeting.

In addition to these content areas, he focuses primarily on the African context in exploration of these development issues.
