Dr. Shaymaa Shurrab is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Genetics/Metabolics.
Dr. Shurrab received her medical degree from Damascus University in Damascus, Syria, after which she completed her residency training in Pediatrics at Damascus Hospital, Ministry of Health, Syria. She was awarded the Certificate of Arab Board in Pediatrics in 2013. She worked as a pediatrician in Gaza Strip for several years during which she volunteered with Palestine Children Relief Fund (PCRF), WHO, UNICEF and MAP-UK. Dr Shurrab earned her master’s degree in Medical Genetics and Genomics, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom through Chevening Scholarship scheme for future leaders.
Dr. Shurrab completed fellowship training in Clinical Genetics at the University of Toronto, after which she completed her CCMG training program in Biochemical Genetics at the University of British Columbia. She has a special interest in metabolic genetics. Her previous research was focused on metabolic myopathies and glycogen storage diseases. She is interested in studying the phenotypic spectrum of X-linked inherited metabolic disorders in females. Her main clinical goal is to improve the clinical care for patients with inherited metabolic disorders in developing and underserved areas.
