The effect of surface grinding and Si addition on the corrosion of Fe-12Cr ODS steels in supercritical CO2

Abstract

In this study, the effects of surface grinding and Si addition on the corrosion behaviors of Fe-12Cr oxide dispersion strengthening (ODS) steels in supercritical carbon dioxide were investigated by multiscale characterizations. The surface grinding resulted in the formation of an ultrafine grained layer, effectively promoting the formation of protective oxide scales. The addition of Si in this steel with a ground surface can further increase the oxidation and carburization resistance by forming a more stable SiO2 and Cr2O3 scale. The synergistic effects of the Si addition and surface grinding on the oxidation behaviors of the ODS steel are discussed.
