Localisation histochimique de l'anhydrase carbonique au niveau des chémorécepteurs artériels des mammifères, des batraciens et des poissons

Abstract

Hansson's modification of Häussler's technique was used to demonstrate the carbonic anhydrase activity in arterial chemoreceptor tissues of Rabbits, Frogs and some Teleost Fish at the light microscope level. In Rabbits, the presence of carbonic anhydrase was found only in chemoreceptor areas of the carotid body.In Frogs, the enzyme was located only in the carotid labyrinth area that contain chemoreceptor cells. In Rabbits, as in Frogs, it was difficult to ascertain whether type I or II cells, or both showed some activity.Satisfying evidence was obtained concerning the intracellular location of enzymatic activity inside the Teleost pseudobranchial cells. This location suggests strongly that the carbonic anhydrase activity is related to the tubules opening on the vascular side of these cells.
