Axonal Transport in Nigro-striatal Neurones

Abstract

AXONAL transport of macromolecules has received considerable attention in recent years1–3 and has been studied particularly in peripheral nerve, in the optic tract4–7 and in the hypothalamico-hypophysial tract8–10. We now report evidence for axonal transport in discrete groups of neurones with cell bodies and projections which lie entirely within the brain, that is the nigro-striatal tract.
