Mixed Integer Optimization of Aircraft Rolling Stock and Bogie

Abstract

View Video Presentation: https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2021-3024.vid This research aims to develop a method used to design the landing gear rolling stock and bogie assembly for the preliminary design stage using structural and mass optimization. The method consists of four analysis sections integrating tire selection, airfield compatibility analysis, brake sizing, and structural sizing & configuration. The optimization statement includes both discrete and continuous design variables. This is approached using a monolithic All-at-Once and Multidisciplinary Feasibility architectures as well as a Nested Optimization by integrating a Genetic Algorithm for discrete optimization and Sequential Least Square Programming for continuous optimization. All architectures are implemented using OpenMDAO.
