Effect of fermentation conditions on the process of cellulase production

Abstract

The effects of temperature, initial pH, liquid-solid ratio and inoculum size on avicelase activity, endoglucanase activity and filter paper activity (FPA) in cellulase production by Trichoderma sp. were studied by solid state fermentation. The liquid-solid ratio was the most great influencing factor during the whole process of the solid state fermentation. In the initial stage of the fermentation, the temperature could affect the cellulase production relatively greatly. The effects of initial pH and inoculum size were not significant. Considering the whole process of the fermentation, the temperature, initial pH, liquid-solid ratio and inoculum size were suggested to be 30°C, 4, 7 and 5%, respectively.
