Excess entropy production criterion of the urban industry-environment system

Abstract

The entropy of the urban industry-environment system was introduced. According to the generalized thermodynamics criterion of stability, which originated from the Dissipative Structure Theory, the model of generalized excess entropy production criterion of the urban industry-environment system was presented. The model reflected the relationship among the investment on environmental protection, the environmental capacity and the state of the industry-environment system, which was helpful in finding out the main aspect need adjustment. The data of the industry-environment system in BaiYin area were used to verify the model and the results reflected the real situation of the area well. Only the chemical industry among the four industries under research was in its unstable state, whose production would increase greatly in recent future. Other three industries were all in their stable states, whose production would reach their maximum in recent future. To promote the development of the industries some efforts must be made to protect the environment. The change of the rate of investment on environmental protection affected the industry-environment system greatly. To boost the system into a high level state, the rates of the investment on environmental protection should be above 0.2273%, 1.21% and 5.508% respectively responding to the mechanical industry, the textile industry and the metallurgical industry in BaiYin area. The higher rate of the metallurgical industry indicates that the insufficient investment on environmental protection before.
