TWO-STEP APPROACH FOR CONTINUOUS MONITORING USING ACOUSTIC EMISSION.
Abstract
A new system for continuous monitoring of large structures using acoustic emission was invented and patented. This system is based on a two-step approach and uses small size, low cost surveillance units containing a microprocessor and which are software controlled to continuously monitor the structure and extract features of the acoustic emission activity. These features are then compared with preprogrammed failure criteria. An example of the actual use of the new system is presented.
