Serious form of hereditary multiple exostoses in a female child

Abstract

Hereditary multiple exostosis is an autosomal dominant disease with abnormal bone formation especially at the long bones. Because of its local symptoms caused by compression, growth retardation can be seen in this disease. We presented a 12-year-old girl with knee pain due to abnormal bone formations in different parts of the body. Palpation of the lesions wasn't painful. There was no growth retardation but the presence of many chondromas led us to contemplate that this was serious form of the disease. Because of the risk of malignant differentiation and serious symptoms, the patient was not referred to the follow-up program.
