Understanding technorruptions: A second hand users' perspective

Abstract

The main purpose of this work-in-progress research is to understand the mechanisms through which technology-mediated interruptions (henceforth to be referred to as "technorruptions") affect individuals surrounding the person that is interrupted (coined in this research as "second hand users"). In doing so, we first aim to develop and validate a construct that measures individuals' Perceived Technorruption Severity (PTS), which captures the stress experienced by second hand users due to these technorruptions. Next, we propose a research model to understand the impacts of the strain derived from PTS on second hand users during work meetings. These research objectives will be achieved using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods.
