A rapid and simple technique for covalent micro patterning of biomolecules inside microfluidic channels

Abstract

We describe a novel technique for biomolecule micropatterning in microfluidic channels as well as flat surfaces using CO2 plasma treatment followed by printing a carbodiimide linker. Compared to the conventional microcontact printing methods where only physical bindings between the biomolecule and surface of interest can be achieved, our proposed method enables us to covalently microcontact print different bio-species onto plasma treated surfaces providing more robust and stable micropatterns in harsh environments and under high shear rates in microfluidics.
