Waveguide Birefringence in Asymmetric Silicon-on-Insulator Nanowires

Abstract

A large group index birefringence of 0.6 is experimentally obtained by a polarisation beating technique in a silicon-on-insulator nano-waveguide. Using the Fabry-Perot resonance method we also determine the group index for two orthogonal polarisations.
