INFLUENCE OF CONSOLIDATION PHENOMENON UPON STRESSES IN EMBANKMENT DAMS.
Abstract
The paper outlines a methodology for a numerical sequential analysis of stresses and displacements within dam embankments, taking into consideration the influence of consolidation. The core consolidation phenomenon effects are considered according to Terzaghi's two-dimensional relationships, which were numerically integrated through a finite difference scheme. The state of stresses within the dam body has been further determined through the finite element method, following the hypothesis of material linear-elastic behavior. The hybrid-type algorithm is based on the NONSAP computer program. The analysis is applied to the Water Mouth Dam, the highest dam in Romania, now under construction.
