Background modelling in electron energy loss spectroscopy

Abstract

The background under low lying ionisation edges in electron energy loss spectra can be successfully modelled allowing the background under the edges to be stripped in regions where the standard AE-r functional form is not acceptable. Examples are shown for aluminum-lithium alloys. Separating the resulting aluminium and lithium edge intensities requires experimentally determined edge shapes. Results using an experimental aluminium edge shape are presented and some results obtained with a preliminary experimental lithium edge are given.
