ADAPTIVE FINITE ELEMENT SIMULATION OF STAGEWISE SEPARATION PROCESSES.

Stagewise fractionation systems are modelled by collocation on adaptively located finite elements. The element boundary locations are calculated simultaneously with the other system variables. Criteria by which these locations may be determined include physical criteria, such as the appearance of another phase, and minimization of a global error measure.
