In vitro adsorption of albumin and lysozyme from mixed protein solutions to commercial contact lenses

The in vitro adsorption of albumin and lysozyme from mixed protein solution to various commercial contact lenses was analyzed. It was found that the silicon containing hydrogel contact lenses adsorb considerably less lysozyme than HEMA based materials. It was also found that the adsorption of albumin to both the silicon hydrogels and the HEMA based materials was very alike. The results show that the silicon containing hydrogels exhibit significantly greater amounts of albumin than lysozyme despite the tear solution containing more lysozyme.
