abstract

  • The optical properties of tissue‐simulating phantoms were estimated by measuring the phase and amplitude of the fluence at two detectors due to an isotropic source. Absorption and reduced scattering coefficients could be recovered within 10% and slightly over 10% respectively, either using the data from two detectors 3mm apart or those from two detectors 5mm apart with light collected by one detector attenuated by a neutral density filter, over a wide range of optical properties, μa=0.008 to 0.17mm−1 and μs′=0.3 to 1.8mm−1. In addition, the effects of source anisotropy and inaccurate fiber position on the recovered optical properties were studied by Monte Carlo simulations.
