Dose‐responses of whole body protein turnover with increasing protein intake after an acute bout of resistance exercise in young men

Dietary protein consumed in excess of requirements can be oxidized. We aimed to determine the dose of protein that would maximize muscle anabolism yet minimize oxidative loss (OXID) after an acute bout of resistance exercise. Six healthy males reported to the laboratory on five separate occasions to perform an intense bout of leg resistance exercise after which they consumed a drink containing 0, 5, 10, 20, or 40g (trials A‐E, respectively) of whole egg protein in a randomized order. Participants received a primed constant infusion of [1‐ 13 C]leucine over 4h after exercise for determination of whole body leucine metabolism and muscle protein fractional synthetic rate (FSR). Leucine flux was unaffected by protein intake.
