MATHEMATICAL SEMANTICS AND A MODEL FOR DATA BASES.
Abstract
This paper discusses the translation of natural language queries into a formal query language representation which consists of a set of procedures designed to interrogate a relational data base. A brief outline of a preference semantics system of natural language is given, and one of the major modifications necessary for data base applications is discussed in some detail. The primary aim of this modification is to supply knowledge of the structure and contents of the data base to the translation phase of the system.
