Nicole Knibb, BA, Art History (McMaster University), MDes, Strategic Foresight and Innovation (Ontario College of Art and Design University) is the Senior Educator, Academic & Professional Engagement at the McMaster Museum of Art and Assistant Professor in McMaster University’s Department of Family Medicine. Nicole designs education and learning programs that provide visual culture and art museum experiences to complement academic, personal, and professional learning. She is responsible for developing innovative programs for McMaster University’s academic community, most notably The Art of Seeing™ art-based visual literacy course in partnership with the Department of Family Medicine. Beyond the health humanities, Nicole has created design-thinking and futures learning experiences illustrated and influenced by the work of artists and curators to examine the pasts and imagine plausible and desirable futures. Informing her practice is ongoing work and learning to support equity, belonging and collaboration ensuring an anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to program design. Nicole has been bringing people together with art for over two decades as an art museum educator. Learning in the art gallery is a unique experience where expectations can be positively disrupted and where true learning can happen.
