Harmonic interference corrected by shunt capacitors on distribution feeders

Abstract

The problem of harmonic interference in communication circuits becomes more severe each year with the growing load on distribution feeders. Shunt capacitors are finding increased use on the system to supply the reactive power and are causing major interference Problems. This presentation offers a practical approach to data collection and interpretation of the problem. Precise corrective measures using shunt capacitors are presented and documented with actual field results. This paper should provide the nonspecialized distribution engineer with practical ready-to-use engineering practices.
