A Maximum Power Point Tracker Control of a Photovoltaic System

Abstract

Due the low utilization factor of photovoltaicarrays it is essential to extract the power through a converter that maximizes the operating point which varies with temperature and irradiance. In this paper we analyze the performance of the most recent Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithms. A new algorithm is proposed as the Adaptive Hill Climbing method. This new method is evaluated in controlled conditions in the laboratory. An outdoor experiment is also presented, showing the considerable improvement in performance over all the other methods.
