Bisphosphonates for osteoporosis in people with cystic fibrosis
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a disorder of bone mineralization that can lead to reduced bone mineral density and an increased risk for fractures. It is found in about one third of adults with cystic fibrosis. Bisphosphonates have been shown to increase bone mineral density and decrease the risk of new fractures in post-menopausal women and in patients receiving long-term oral corticosteroids.
