Abstract

The ovalbumin-sensitized guinea pig is commonly used as a small animal model of allergic asthma. This animal model exhibits many of the hallmark characteristics observed in patients afflicted with asthma including nonspecific airway hyperreactivity, airway eosinophilia, early and late phase bronchoconstriction, and plasma extravasation into the airways.
