Metallographic techniques for the study of continuously cast microalloyed steels

Abstract

Methods are described to investigate the evolution of the final structure from the as-cast structure in HSLA steels. By using a combination of metallographic techniques, from optical methods to analytical scanning transmission electron microscopy, it is possible to determine the distribution and composition of alloy carbonitrides and to deduce at what stage in the complex thermal history they are produced.
