Structural aspects of materials subjected to large strains

Abstract

In high strain deformation of both single-phase and multiphase materials, it is necessary to consider the mechanisms for the storage of high densities of dislocations, and their stability. In addition, competitive processes such as dynamic recovery, in situ recrystallization and damage accumulation must be considered. The current paper provides an overview which encompasses studies of the plastic strain gradients which accompany indentation in MoSi2, the storage of high densities of dislocations and the codeformation of phases which lead to strength levels approaching theoretical limits.
