Probiotics are live non-pathogenic commensal organisms that exert therapeutic effects in travellers' diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. Little is known about mechanisms of action of commensal bacteria on intestinal motility and motility-induced pain.
