Garden of Future Blackness: A terraform artwork

Abstract

This photo essay documents the making of the Garden of Future Blackness , a sankofa-shaped garden and land-based community artwork that promotes a future where Blackness will be inherently valuable, cherished, and nurtured. Started in the summer of 2020 on the 64-acre site of FAR (Feminist Artist Residency), the Garden became the site of one of three outdoor performances that closed the weeklong Witch Institute symposium in August 2021.
